Nintendo of America Headquarters, commonly referred to as simply Nintendo Headquarters, is the headquarters of Nintendo Corporation, a Japanese multinational consumer electronics and video game company. The company's president and chief operating officer, Reggie Fils-Aime, announced the construction of the new headquarters in Redmond, Washington in October 2013. The new headquarters was designed by architecture firm Gensler and is scheduled to be completed in November 2019.
Nintendo's predecessor, The Nintendo Company, was founded on September 23, 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi. The company originally produced handmade playing cards and board games until it entered the video game business in the 1970s. In 1986, Nintendo became a publicly traded company. In December 1983, Hiroshi Yamauchi became president of Nintendo. In 1995, he retired from his role as chairman but retained his presidency. In 2002, Yamauchi died and his son, Satoru Iwata, succeeded him as president. Iwata retired from his role as president in 2013 and was succeeded by Fils-Aime.
