A new support for Songbird (SGB) is available in the latest version of Simulink. This support enables Simulink models to run on Songbird (SGB) computers. Songbird is a free and open source desktop environment based on GNOME 3.x.
To use this support, you must have the Songbird desktop environment installed on your computer. Then, you can install the Simulink extension from the Simulink Extension Warehouse. After you have installed the extension, you can create a new Simulink model or open an existing model in Simulink and select the Songbird platform as the platform type.
This support is currently available in the Simulink modelserver and block diagram editor. In the future, this support may be extended to other models and editors.

In March 2009, Microsoft announced that it was buying audio software company Songbird for an undisclosed sum, and the acquisition was completed on April 1, 2009. The company's headquarters were located in Seattle, Washington. As of January 1, 2013, all Songbird products were discontinued.
Songbird was founded in 2004 by Jonathan Zdziarski and Michael Weinberg. The company developed a music player for the Windows operating system, which it marketed as an alternative to Apple's iTunes. In 2006, Songbird introduced a voice recorder for Windows, which it marketed as an alternative to Apple's VoiceOver.
Microsoft acquired Songbird in March 2009. At the time of the acquisition, Songbird had 2 million users and had made $60 million in revenue over the preceding three years. Microsoft discontinued all Songbird products as of January 1, 2013.
