What is NETKO?
NETKO is a computer program that helps scientists study the behavior of electrons in materials. NETKO is also used to develop new materials and to improve the performance of existing ones.

"I'm glad you're here, General," he said. "I've been trying to reach you for hours."
"What's going on?"
"I'm not sure. I just got a call from the president. He said that something's happened at the K'Tirrall facility."
"What do you think it is?"
"I have no idea. But he wants me to come down right away."
"I'll be there in a minute."
General Estrin hurried out of the office and down the hall to the president's office. When he entered, he saw that the president was on the phone. He motioned for Estrin to take a seat.
"What is it, Mr. President?"
The president looked up from his phone and shook his head. "I don't know, General. But something's definitely happened. I need you to go down to the K'Tirrall facility and take a look for yourself."
Chapter 3
General Estrin was puzzled by the president's request. He knew that the K'Tirrall facility was one of the most secure sites on Earth, and there was no way that something could have happened there that would require his immediate attention. But he didn't want to upset the president, so he agreed to go down and see what was happening.
He quickly packed a bag and headed for the airport. When he arrived, he was met by a member of the president's staff.
"The president has arranged for a helicopter to take you to the K'Tirrall facility, General," he said. "The flight should be ready in just a few minutes."
General Estrin boarded the helicopter and took off toward the facility. When they arrived, he was escorted to a secure area within the facility where he could wait for the president.
He spent the rest of the day waiting for news about what had happened at the K'Tirrall facility. But there was still no answer as to what had caused the president to request his presence.
Chapter 4
Finally, late in the evening, a member of the president's staff came to get him.
"General Estrin," she said, "the president wants you to come back to the White House right away."
"What's going on?" he asked.
"I'm not sure, but the president seems very concerned about what's happened at the K'Tirrall facility."
General Estrin was mystified by the president's behavior, but he decided that it would be best to go back to the White House and find out what was going on. He quickly packed his bag and headed back to Washington.
When he got back to the White House, he was escorted into the president's office. The president was sitting at his desk and he motioned for General Estrin to take a seat.
"What is it, Mr. President?" he asked. "What's happened at the K'Tirrall facility?"
The president hesitated for a moment before he finally spoke. "I'm not sure, General. But something's definitely gone wrong."
He paused again and looked down at his hands before he continued. "I need you to go down there and take a look for yourself."
"But Mr. President, I don't know what to expect down at the facility."
"I know that, General. But I trust your judgement. I just don't know what else to do."
General Estrin considered the president's words for a moment before he finally nodded. "All right, Mr. President. I'll go down and take a look for myself."
