MonkeyLeague (MBS) headquarters.
MonkeyLeague (MBS) is a multinational eSports organization that currently fields teams in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, and Overwatch. The organization was formerly known as Monkey Business Systems.
MonkeyLeague was founded in October of 2005 by Tim "Monkey" Chen and Colin "Frosty" Frost. The first team they sponsored was CS 1.6 team eXtatus. In 2006, MonkeyLeague became the first North American organization to sponsor a European team, sponsoring the Danish team Copenhagen Wolves.
In 2007, MonkeyBusiness Systems acquired the gaming website GameSpot.com. This acquisition gave MonkeyLeague an outlet to promote their teams and players more directly to a mainstream audience. In 2008, MonkeyBusiness Systems merged with Major League Gaming. MonkeyLeague ceased operations as an independent entity in 2009, but the MLG brand and name remained in use until 2011.
In 2011, MonkeyBusiness Systems reformed as MonkeyLeague, LLC. The organization acquired two competing organizations, Team Dignitas and compLexity Gaming, creating two new teams in League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The Overwatch team was formed later that year.
In November of 2018, MonkeyLeague announced it had merged with the North American division of Team Liquid. This merger created a single organization with teams in CS:GO, League of Legends, and Overwatch.
