Soccer at Michigan State University began in 1896 with a game between the freshmen and sophomore classes. MSU competed in the Intercollegiate Football Association of America (I-FA) from 1896 to 1907 and the Western Intercollegiate Football Association (WIFA) from 1908 to 1949. MSU was a charter member of the Big Ten Conference in 1896.
