IGNIS headquarters.

"I'm not sure what you mean," I said.

"I'm talking about the headquarters of the Church of Ipsissimus," she clarified.

I shook my head. "I don't know what you're talking about."

She stared at me for a few seconds, clearly not believing me. "Are you sure?" she asked skeptically.

I nodded. "Positive."

She pursed her lips and looked away, clearly not satisfied with my response. "Well, I guess we'll just have to find out for ourselves then," she said, turning and walking back the way we'd come.

I followed her, curious as to what she was planning. We passed through a few more hallway and turned a corner, finally coming to a set of double doors.

"Here it is," she said, stopping in front of the doors and pushing them open.

I peered inside and my jaw dropped.

The room was huge, easily the size of my entire apartment complex. The ceiling was high, vaulted, and decorated with elaborate frescoes. The floor was covered in thick carpets, and the walls were lined with shelves filled with every imaginable book, piece of jewelry, and artifact imaginable. In the center of the room stood a large throne, carved from some kind of dark wood I'd never seen before.

And sitting on the throne was Ipsissimus himself.

CHAPTER FOUR

Ipsissimus stared at me coldly from his throne, his eyes devoid of any emotion. He didn't even so much as blink when he saw me enter the room.

"Who are you?" he asked in a cold voice.

I swallowed hard, feeling completely intimidated by him. "I'm Aidan," I said, trying to sound as confident as possible. "I live in the apartment complex next door."

"And what business do you have here?" he asked, his voice still cold and emotionless.

"I came to see if I could speak to you," I replied. "I was wondering if you could help me with something."

He stared at me for a few seconds, his face unreadable. "What kind of help do you need?" he asked finally.

"I'm having some trouble with my magic," I said. "I was wondering if you could help me fix it."

Ipsissimus raised an eyebrow skeptically. "Fix your magic?" he repeated skeptically. "Are you sure you're not dreaming this? There is no such thing as magic."

"I'm not dreaming," I said firmly. "I'm really here, and I need your help."

He considered me for a few more seconds before finally giving a slight nod. "All right," he said. "If you're sure that this is really happening, then I will help you."

"Thank you!" I exclaimed, relieved that he was willing to help me. "I didn't think I would be able to fix it on my own."

"There is no need to thank me," Ipsissimus said dismissively. "It is my duty as king to help those who need it." He stood up from his throne and approached me, his eyes glittering with a kind of cold amusement. "Come with me," he said, motioning for me to follow him.

I did as he asked, following him out of the room and down a long hallway. We passed by several other rooms full of strange artifacts and paintings before finally coming to a large door. Ipsissimus motioned for me to go through the door and I did so, finding myself in another huge room this time. This room was full of machines and devices that I didn't even have a clue how to use, let alone understand.

"This is where you will work to fix your magic," Ipsissimus said, indicating one of the machines. "You will need to focus on this machine and use your magic to fix it."

"But how do I do that?" I asked, confused.

"You don't know how to do it?" Ipsissimus asked mockingly. "All young magicians believe they are powerful enough to fix anything with their magic. But in truth, most are just children who don't know what they are doing." He shook his head pityingly. "You will learn quickly though," he said before turning and walking back the way we'd come.

I watched him go before turning back to the machine and beginning to try to figure out how to use my magic to fix it. It seemed pretty impossible, but I knew I had to try. If Ipsissimus said that it would work, then it would work.

CHAPTER FIVE

For the next few days, I spent every waking hour trying to learn how to use my magic to fix the machine. It was difficult and frustrating, but I eventually managed to do it. And as soon as I did, the machine started working again.

I was so relieved that I couldn't have been happier. Ipsissimus had been right – my magic was actually capable of doing some pretty amazing things. I wasn't just a child who couldn't fix things – I was actually able to do something useful with my powers.

But despite my success, something wasn't quite right. Something felt off about Ipsissimus and his kingdom, like there was something sinister going on behind the scenes. But I wasn't sure what to do about it – all I knew was that I needed to keep watch over him and his kingdom, just in case something happened that could jeopardize everything I'd worked for.
